Red Dawn at Morning

Just a quick update before the craziness of my day begins. Met with some of the STRI resident research staff last night. Very nice people, all about my age. Somewhat odd, thinking that if I’d dovetailed and gone into tropical biology, I’d be in their shoes now. Hopefully things go well in the JASON/STRI co-existence. I think they will. We are not the usual boatload of eco-tourists that swarms over the island. We intend to be low impact and something new and fun for them.

That said, we also have twelve 14 year olds coming in a couple hours.

Last night the howlers were much quieter, or at least further away. The best way I’ve come up with to think of their sound is it’s probably what the Dementors in Harry Potter sound like. I’ll be bringing a DV cam to bed tonight if they get loud and will share the sounds.

Also last night there was about 30 minutes of torrential downpour, harder than anything I’ve ever heard. Just as you think it’s as heavy as it gets, it shifts up a gear. At breakfast today, I learned that’s what they consider a light nighttime drizzle. Oh well.

Ok, I can hear the crew boat pulling in. So away I go. I will try to get a few pictures up at some point very soon. I haven’t been taking hardly any, but there will be some.
